5 key takeaways from Deliveroo's Food Forward

Over 300 partners from across the delivery industry gathered for the Food Forward with Deliveroo event, Deliveroo’s annual partner gathering. A day dedicated to uncovering Deliveroo’s strategic vision and future plan, as well as an opportunity for partners to experience first hand what’s cooking in Deliveroo’s kitchen, we’ve summarised the four main takeaways from the many panel discussions, keynote speakers and guests.

On the growth potential of the food delivery market in the UK, Deliveroo’s chief business officer for Europe, Carlo Mocci, explained how there is a huge potential for delivery to take over more food occasions: “Many think the food delivery market is already huge, and there's not much room left for growth. But according to Kantar out of 50 billion in-home food occasions annually in the UK, only one billion are takeaways. That's just 2%. There's a massive opportunity here”, he said. 

“There's no magic formula for success, but we believe that focusing on the small things every day adds up to a big impact”, explained Mocci. “We’re here to work with the best restaurants, grocers and retailers in the country to accelerate their growth and support them to succeed in our marketplace”. 

With loyalty being the focus of 2024’s Food Forward edition, it’s no surprise that this topic was at the core of many conversations and keynote speeches during the day. As VP of Global Restaurants Rob Harris explains, the improved Plus loyalty programme offered to Deliveroo customers is all about getting customers to think about Deliveroo for more occasions.  According to a recent Deliveroo Study, 83% of customers spend more with brands they are loyal to.

Whether it's dinner with family, cooking at home, DIY at the weekend, or a self-care pampering session - Deliveroo helps consumers by bringing the neighbourhood to their door. Deliveroo’s brand positioning update, Now Just Got Even Better, shows our commitment to getting customers to think about using Deliveroo more broadly.

“Deliveroo’s mission is to change the way people shop and eat”, says VP of New Verticals Suzy McClintock. New partners from a variety of industries, such as grocery, convenience stores, retailers such as florists, DIY and so on, have brought more choice to Deliveroo customers who can now turn to our app for more shopping occasions than before. 

New occasions also means customers are coming back to Deliveroo for our unmatched selection. With over 8,000 grocery partners offering 10,000+ products to millions of customers, 80% of these go on to order from a restaurant after their first grocery order (Source: Deliveroo Internal Data).

Another key focus area is consumer trust, which is built through delivering a consistently great experience to our customers.  Rob Harris reflects on the improvements we’re making to achieve the perfect delivery, such as expanding delivery zones, using technology to fix common issues and using generative AI to make customer care faster and more personalised. Our Value Programme plays an important role in building trust, helping consumers find restaurants that offer a great experience at a fair price, boosting consumer satisfaction, order frequency, and retention.
