The importance of accurate opening hours

Imagine this scenario: It’s Friday evening, and a customer is looking for a local restaurant or shop to treat themselves to a nice delivery. They place an order, only to receive a cancellation message because that business is unexpectedly closed. Frustration sets in, and the likelihood of that customer returning becomes low.

Accurate opening hours might seem like a minor detail, but they play a significant role in creating a positive and reliable customer experience. Ensuring that your opening hours are up to date can make the difference between a loyal customer and a missed opportunity, which can have a big impact on your business.

There are a few best practices you can follow to guarantee your opening hours are accurate and deliver a great experience to your customers.

Available hours: Your opening hours on Deliveroo should match the hours you can accept and fulfil all orders.

Opening time: Your opening time should be when your team is ready to accept and immediately start preparing an order. 

Closing time: Your closing time should be when your team is able to accept and fully prepare your last order, including enough time to hand over the order to the rider. 

Plan any closures: If you plan to close for a whole day, schedule a Day Off so your customers know when you’re not open for business. 

Set special hours: Set up Special Opening Hours for any days that you will operate on a different schedule, such as public holidays, training days, special events and so on.

Check your tablet: Make sure your tablet is always connected to a reliable wifi and charging at all times. If you have issues with your connection, you might still appear as open and receive orders, affecting the customer’s experience. 

How to manage your opening hours in Partner Hub

Managing your opening hours is easy and quick. You can do that via our Partner Hub on your computer or smartphone. 

1. Log in to Partner Hub and access the “Opening Hours” tab on the main menu.

2. Select a day, and add or change the hours for opening and closing. Note that you cannot set '0' opening hours.

3. Use the “+ Add Hours” button to add extra shifts on the same day.

4. Remember to “Save Changes” after editing.

When setting your opening hours, you can choose any hours or period for any day of the week to be open or closed. The system will automatically show the hours when Deliveroo riders in your area are available so you can decide which opening hours are best for your business. If you offer pick-up, those hours are displayed with a note explaining that pick-up will not be affected.

If your business uses its own delivery drivers (Marketplace+), zone hours are not displayed, and you can select any period of time that is available for orders. You can also select hours after midnight — in this case, the closing time will be shown with a “+1” to indicate closing the next day.

The hours set here will be your standard opening hours on Deliveroo. This means your business will always operate during those hours unless you apply any changes. 

How to improve opening hours

If you need to close for a full day or multiple days, you can schedule a Day Off. This can be done in advance and will ensure your business remains closed on the chosen dates without having to change your standard opening hours. We recommend scheduling any days off as far in advance as possible to avoid customers scheduling orders for periods you’re not trading and feeling disappointed. 

Days Off can be scheduled via the Partner Hub on your computer or smartphone and can also be set using your tablet. Here’s how:

1. Log in to Partner Hub and click on the “Opening Hours” tab on the main menu

2. Select the “Days Off” option at the top of the page

3. Tap “Add days off” and select the date or period you want to close

4. Add the reason why your business will be closed

5. Select the site(s) you wish to apply the days off and click “Add”.

If your plans change, you can edit or delete any upcoming days off. Just click on the edit icon and apply any desired changes.

It’s important to keep your opening hours up-to-date, even when your business hours might differ. 

You can set up special opening hours on Hub to inform customers about any changes in your working hours during specific events. These can be due to events, bank holidays, business needs, or last-minute demands that interfere with your routine. 

To set up special opening hours, follow these steps:

1. Log in to Partner Hub and go to the “Opening Hours” tab on the main menu.

2. Select “Edit availability” at the top right of the page.

3. Click “Select sites” to choose which sites you want the changes to apply. You can select multiple sites at once or bulk upload them.

4. Once you pick the sites, select “Update” and click “Continue”.

5. Fill out the event name and choose the date to set up the special opening hours.

6. Select the time you want to open on that day. If you want to close, select “Closed all day”.

7. Choose a reason for your special hours and click “Save”.

8. Before continuing, the system will ask you to confirm your selected one-off opening hours. If you need to amend the sites, you can do so by clicking “Select sites”.

9. Click “Save” to apply the changes to all selected sites.

10. After a few minutes, you will receive a message confirming your special opening hours have been successfully set up.

Note: If an error message appears, you might need to set your special hours again. This might happen if you’re experiencing connection issues or instability. 

Only admin users can set up and manage the special opening hours for your business. A banner will appear at the top of the page on Partner Hub to remind you of any upcoming special opening hours. You can also view all the upcoming events by clicking the “View all events” button on the banner. 

Special opening hours will automatically override regular opening hours on the selected day. To cancel or update a scheduled event, simply select it and click the “Delete” button at the bottom of the session. 

If you need to cancel or update the opening hours for one of the events, select the event and click the “Delete” button at the bottom of the session.
